Siena

Siena

Siena is a relatively small university city in Tuscany with about 54 000 inhabitants. This city from the middle ages could be out of a book of fairytales. It is situated in the center of picturesque Tuscian landscape with soft hills, olive groves and vineyards. In the old city center are many buildings and monuments that have remained unchanged during the last 600 years - in the middle of the many open squares, and the big Piazza Il Campo you feel like you have been zapped into the past. It is no surprise that the UNESCO has added parts of the city to to the World Inheritance List. The old, narrow lanes and streets invite you to meandre through and take in the atmosphere. The meeting point of the locals is the region around the Piazza Il Campo. Here you will find many street cafes, that pulsate until late in the evenings when the weather is fine. Siena is one of the most important cities in Italy in regards to art and culture. Only a few cities can be proud of such a well preserved history.
