The south west of England is famous for its mild climate, and the region around Torbay, is known as the English Riviera. It consists of 3 cities with approx. 132 000 inhabitants. Torquay is the biggest of these three cities, has approx. 63 000 inhabitants and enjoys the warmest climate throughout England. The locals are very proud of their palm trees, and the mediterranean vegetation that tends to remind one of the Mediterranea Sea, and not of England. Torquay was built on 7 hills, and offers spectacular panorama. Even though the city itself is rather small, it has a very good infrastructure due to the large number of tourists that visit each year. The city has a big variety of watersport activities available, and is well known to those who sail and wind surf. You will also find 3 swimming pools, 5 theaters, 4 cinemas, over 50 tennis courts, 2 attractive Golf courses, and various fitness centers. With over 30 km of coastline, 18 beaches and a very charming landscape, the English Riviera is very attractive for English and international tourists. In summer it is very busy, whilst in winter the city belongs to the locals. This very attractive region of England is becoming more and more popular with language students. If you are looking for a small city in which to do your language course, in the south west of England, then Torquay is a first class choice.
